  9.           BUSINESS PLAN MASTER will:

  11.         *   Help you create a highly professional business plan.

  23.     Requirements
  24.     ------------
  25.     
  26.         Any PC or compatible with a word processing or page
  27.     layout program and a spreadsheet program.  These files are
  28.     designed for use by those with a basic (not advanced)
  29.     knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets.
  30.     
  31.         The text files are in WordPerfect 5.1 (*.WP) and
  32.     ASCII (*.TXT) formats.  The spreadsheet files are in
  33.     Lotus 1-2-3 files v2.01 (*.WK1).  Any later versions and
  34.     also many other competitive programs such as WordStar,
  35.     Word, or Quattro Pro should be able to import these
  36.     files.
  37.     
  38.         I am partial to laser printers, but it is not a
  39.     requirement UNLESS you are planning to present this plan to
  40.     venture capitalists or other sophisticated investors.
  41.     
  42.         A version written for Microsoft Works is also
  43.     available.  The title of the file should be BPMWKS.ZIP.
  44.         
  45.         A Macintosh version is also available.  It is located on
  46.     CompuServe, Ziffnet, GEnie, Delphi, America OnLine, BMUG,
  47.     and BCS-Mac, as well as several shareware vendors.

  50.     Purpose:
  51.     
  52.         Every business needs to have a plan in order to track
  53.     its progress.  There is no business too small, too large,
  54.     too complex or too simple to avoid having a business plan.
  55.     I found that many businessmen assume that the usefulness
  56.     of their business plan is over once the business is
  57.     up and running.  I have been successful using a business
  58.     plan not only to start a business, but as an important
  59.     management tool in an ongoing business.
  60.     
  61.         This program is designed for use by any size (small,
  62.     medium or large) or type (product or service) of business.
  63.     It also includes all the necessary information which most
  64.     lenders or investors are seeking.
  65.     
  66.         I didn't write this program in an ivory tower some
  67.     place, but out of my own business experience.  For seven
  68.     years, I imported cuckoo clocks from the Black Forest of
  69.     Germany, so this is definetly a "cuckoo" program!  I have
  70.     been involved in many other business ventures.  I'd be lying
  71.     if I said I made money with all of them.  But I can
  72.     truthfully say that all were successful, mainly because I
  73.     followed a plan and stuck to it.

  75.         BUSINESS PLAN MASTER supplies you with complete template
  76.     files.  I give you professional formats (footnootes, tables
  77.     of contents,some simple graphics), some excellent sample
  78.     text and several spreadsheet files for you to use.  Alone
  79.     these could save you many hundreds of hours of work.
  80.     Because of the wide diversity of businesses and business
  81.     ideas, I have tried to make these files as universal as
  82.     possible.  Over time, you will likely incorporate your own
  83.     language into the text and make modifications to the
  84.     worksheets.

  87.     one.  It happens to all of us!

  95.         If you want to get started quickly, just read these few
  96.     lines:

  98.         FIRST, take a look at what is here.
  99.     
  100.         Open the spreadsheets in your spreadsheet program.  The
  101.     best file to look at first is BPMPROF.* (Proforma Financial
  102.     Statements).  I highly recommend that you do your
  103.     spreadsheet work first.  Make sure your business idea is
  104.     going to be financially worthwhile before trying to
  105.     write the text portion.
  106.     
  107.         Get into your word processing program.
  108.     
  109.         Open the BUSINESS PLAN MASTER file, either BIZPLN21.WP
  110.     (WordPerfect 5.1) or BIZPLN21.TXT (ASCII text).  This is
  111.     the main BUSINESS PLAN MASTER file which will contain
  112.     the text you will use.
  113.     
  114.         To access the BIZPLN21.WP in WordPerfect 5.1, hit <F5>
  115.     (List Files), change to the A directory (or the directory on
  116.     your hard drive where BIZPLN21.WP is located), then retrieve
  117.     it by hitting "1".
  118.     
  119.         If you are now hopelessly lost, take a look at the
  120.     User's Guide.  By registering at the *PROFESSIONAL* level, I
  121.     send you a printed User's Guide along with other valuable
  122.     items.

  130.          The text files are in two formats, ASCII text and
  131.     WordPerfect 5.1.  The spreadsheet files are in Lotus
  132.     (*.WK1) format.  These files can be opened with higher
  133.     versions.  Most other spreadsheet programs can import
  134.     the Lotus.

  205.         Shareware describes a method of distributing copyrighted
  206.     software in which a user is allowed to fully evaluate the
  207.     software before purchasing it.  After an evaluation period,
  208.     the user is required to register the product if he decides
  209.     to keep using it.

  211.         Shareware distribution addresses all of the legitimate
  212.     complaints that users have with commercial software
  213.     distribution.

  215.       o Shareware allows a user to fully evaluate a product,
  216.         free of charge, in his or her home or business, *before*
  217.         deciding to buy it.

  219.       o Shareware programs can circulate freely on Bulletin
  220.         Boards, through Shareware disk distributors, or through

  223.       o Because Shareware distribution reduces the need to
  224.         advertise, Shareware is less expensive than commercial

  235.         In short, Shareware is a user's dream come true.  Users
  236.     show their appreciation to developers for this extremely
  237.     flexible distribution scheme by registering their software.

  239.     gradually disappear.  It is not sufficient to simply let the
  240.     "other guy" pay the registration.  You are the other guy's
  241.     "other guy".

  247.         Shareware is not "free" software.  Shareware is not
  248.     Public Domain software.  The fee that you may have paid to
  249.     receive a Shareware program does not mean that the software

  251.     vendor, User Group, Bulletin Board Service or retailer to
  252.     cover their cost of getting the program to you.  Shareware

  264.     four years.  During that period it has been in constant use
  265.     by its author.  BUSINESS PLAN MASTER was originally
  266.     developed for the IBM PC.  It was later developed to run on
  267.     Apple Macintosh computers.  The development now is done
  268.     concurrently - wherever I feel like working on a particular
  269.     day!
